Travertine restoration is something that we are really passionate about. When you are restoring travertine tiles there are some challenges that you can face. It is important if you are choosing to restore your travertine floor yourself or invest the help of a stone restoration specialist that you are aware of the process. Knowledge is always power, and time spent on employing the help of a professional will eliminate many of the possible challenges.

Travertine Restoration – What to be aware of

Travertine is a natural stone. There are different grades of travertine tiles available to purchase when you are at the point of installation. Some may make the decision that they want to invest in a higher-grade and higher-quality stone tile. While others may have more of a budget constraint. Not everyone can necessarily afford the higher-grade quality tiles when installing them within their home or business.

When your chosen floor installation specialist is laying the tiles, if you have selected the lower grade tile then it is important, they back fill all of the holes and imperfections on the back of the tile. Why? This will be beneficial for many reasons. If they complete this process, then the tiles will be less likely to experience deep holes during their lifetime. Holes can start to appear on the surface of the tile, even if the hole was not originally through to the surface. If the tile is filled properly this is less likely to happen.

As you can imagine it will also offer stability to the tile. A complete tile is more hard-wearing than one with holes in. A natural stone can crumble slightly over time so care must be taken to look after them correctly. The process of stone restoration is also much easier with a tile that is appropriately laid and cared for.

We are happy to give information and advice in relation to stone cleaning. We complete a large range of travertine restoration projects. Get in touch to find out how we can help restore your stone floor on 01296 294304.

If you are looking for help restoring travertine tiles, it is important that you are aware of what to expect. Our vast experience in the stone cleaning trade has meant that we have extensive knowledge of the best techniques and products. Although travertine cleaning will generally follow the same pattern, there are intricacies that each travertine restoration project brings.

This is why it is so important to survey the travertine floor before work commences. This process allows us to identify so much about the stone floor. It will allow us to form a plan and see if any repairs are needed.

Restoring Travertine Tiles – The Story

When we arrived, this travertine floor was dull and stained. It had become very difficult for our client to maintain. We soon identified that the main cause of the problem was the previous applications of an acrylic type of seal. Unfortunately, this type of stone sealer is not suited to this type of floor. Acrylic seals are known attract and hold soiling. Furthermore, people often identify it having a yellowing effect over time.

We worked to remove all previous surface coatings. This then leaves the natural travertine stone to be deep cleaned. Part of our comprehensive stone cleaning services means that your tiles are grout are extensively cleaned. Some find grout cleaning a real challenge. Our powerful machinery works to complete this process quickly and efficiently.

Furthermore, your tiles will be much easier to maintain.

Travertine cleaning is rewarding. Travertine tiles are an exceptionally beautiful natural stone. They offer a striking appearance and suit many properties. As with many other natural stone types they are available in a range of tile sizes, grades and even colours.

We were asked to survey this Travertine floor in Seer Green, Buckinghamshire. When we arrived, it was evident that the Travertine floors were quite soiled and dull. This was likely due to the fact that the floor had not been maintained regularly.

Deterioration of any stone floor can happen over a number of months which means that often this goes relatively unnoticed. That is, until you realise that your once beautiful stone floor has started to look lifeless.

Another element that can deteriorate stone flooring is the use of incorrect products. Natural stone tiles are porous so it is really important that the correct cleaning formulations are used. This, coupled with the knowledge of cleaning techniques will help your Travertine floor look at its best, for longer.

When we arrived we assessed what needed protecting. Our client asked us to remove and replace the furniture as part of the service.

We used strippers to remove any existing stone sealer product still on the floor. Due to the dullness of the floor we also needed to use a special cleaning sand after stripping the floor.

We then deep cleaned floors and grout throughout using our specialist machinery. The next step was to polish the floors with polishing powders. After this the floor needed to be totally dry before applying the new sealers to the floor. Finally, we buffed the floor with special pads.

This process requires in-depth knowledge in order to achieve the best results. Identifying the correct products compliments the process and offers an exceptionally striking transformation.

Has your stone flooring started to deteriorate?

Is it becoming more and more difficult to keep clean? Our stone cleaning and restoration services are cost-effective and ensure your floors are easy to maintain and keep clean. Call 01296 294304 to arrange a no obligation quotation. We are here to help.
